Project information

The aims of the Project “Atmosphere aerosol and ozone monitoring in CIS regions through lidar stations network (CIS-LiNet)” are to create scientific, engineering and methodological foundations to develop a lidar network CIS-LiNet in CIS regions, as well as a technology for atmospheric lidar monitoring and its demonstration while tracking atmospheric aerosols and ozone in CIS, and to perform joint atmospheric investigations with and AERONET/PHOTONS/AEROCAN, EARLINET and AD-Net at the Eurasian continent.

The lidar network developed would provide gathering reliable data on atmospheric aerosols and ozone parameters that appear necessary to solve a variety of climatological and ecological problems. Spatial and temporal trends and cyclic changes in parameters of tropospheric and stratospheric aerosols as well as that of stratospheric ozone in different geophysical CIS regions will be studied. Dedicated coordinated observations will be performed to investigate transformations of atmospheric aerosols and ozone parameters in time of large-scale air masses transport. The objects of the investigations by the lidar network created will be also regional features in the formation of aerosol fields in the troposphere and studying contributions by regional aerosol emission sources. The Project envisages development of new methods to sound altitude profiles of aerosol microstructure on the base of correlated multi-frequency lidar and radiometric measurements with using Raman sounding procedures. The functional facilities of the network and effectiveness of the technology developed will be demonstrated in routine and dedicated field observations.
